#RethinkingRome

Our Civita Bagnoregio itinerary is part of Divertimento Group’s #RethinkingRome program which challenges traditional travel packages that usually give visitors an hour or two at most in Civita, after a long day in a more popular location such as Orvieto, a very well-known nearby Medieval town.

Civita Bagnoregio is the icon for what cultural travelers are looking for -- extraordinary beauty and uniqueness... no crowds, no lines and simple pleasures.

We challenge traditional travel packages and do not view Civita Bagnoregio as an "add on" attraction.

Civita Bagnoregio is Divertimento Group's inspiration

Civita di Bagnoregio, or “Civita” as it is often called, with a population of 10, is actually the culprit for this company’s foundation.  At least that is what Divertimento Group’s founder says. Against a backdrop of Overtourism in Rome, Florence, and Venice where visitors and their tour-guides can barely see the monuments being explained, this amazing fantasy-like town bewitched her. When she left, she was convinced it was time to rethink Italian travel and share “her” Italy with visitors

The repeated reference to Civita as the “Dying Town” motivated us to show the world that it is alive and well – with 1 million tourists having visited since 2013.

We have some suspicion that the writers of tour guides who mention Civita and those on internet-based travel sites – have not actually visited. In fact, Divertimento Group staff can’t believe that most visitors to Orvieto do not even know how close they are to this unique, not-to-be-believed corner of the earth. Just like visitors to Rome who are within minutes of another Divertimento Group jewel in the Castelli Romani – Nemi – and they do not even know it.

JOIN US in our STOP Overtourism Movement!

New visitors to Italy who want to avoid crowds want to explore unknown places and live Alternative Cultural Adventures.

Our new collaborative approach puts travelers on center stage and sees them as major protagonists in the STOP Overtourism Movement. They can ask Divertimento Group Resellers about a different kind of Italian travel experience – a perfect alternative that helps “first timers” who have not yet seen Italy avoid long lines and annoying crowds– but especially attractive for visitors who have already been to Italy’s major cities.

One way to join our STOP Overtourism movement is to really spend some time in these off-the-beaten track gems – and get to know the local shop owners and residents.
